Nigeria’s build-up to Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Lesotho has been thrown into disarray after several Super Eagles players were held up by visa complications preventing them from entering South Africa, Footynaija.com reports.
Lesotho, who host their home matches in South Africa, are set to face Nigeria at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
However, at least three players, mainly late call-ups replacing injured teammates, are still struggling to secure entry permits, delaying full-squad training until possibly the eve of the game.
Team officials confirmed that while most members of last month’s squad were issued three-month multiple-entry visas, the new invitees were not covered under that arrangement.
A diplomatic source in Pretoria told THISDAY: “Yes, a few recalled players are having visa issues, probably three. We’re hopeful it will be sorted soon.”
As of Monday, only the coaching crew and support staff had checked into the team’s base at the Ranch Hotel, with some players expected later through Johannesburg.
Nigeria, third in their group with 11 points, must beat Lesotho and Benin Republic to keep alive their fading hopes of reaching the 2026 World Cup.
