Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has expressed his delight after opening his La Liga account for the season in Atletico Madrid’s 3-1 victory over Sevilla on Saturday, Footynaija.com reports.
Lookman was on target as Diego Simeone’s side produced a dominant first-half display at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan to secure their second league victory of the campaign.
Alex Baena put Atletico ahead inside four minutes before Lookman doubled their advantage in the 26th minute. The Nigerian received a pass from Pablo Barrios inside the penalty area before calmly firing a low effort into the bottom corner to register his first La Liga goal of the new season.

Lookman thought he had scored again shortly after the restart, but his effort was ruled out for offside before his withdrawal in the 66th minute. Miguel Sierra pulled one back for Sevilla, but Baena’s second goal of the afternoon had already given Atletico enough breathing room to see out the contest.
Reflecting on the victory, Lookman was buzzing after contributing to another important result. He also took out time to praise the team’s collective performance.
“I’m very happy with the three points, of course. We played very well today. We were very sharp in the right moments. So, yeah, three points, on to the next game,” Lookman said after the encounter.
“Good to get off the mark, of course. I’m happy to win and that’s the most important thing. But also playing together as a team today in those moments were great. Yeah, I’m happy.”
The result leaves Atletico unbeaten after three league matches, with seven points from a possible nine. Lookman will now turn his attention to Atleti’s next challenge as Simeone’s side travel to San Mames to face Athletic Club on Saturday, September 5.
