Victor Osimhen could return from injury to find a new manager at Galatasaray, with Didier Deschamps reportedly being considered as the Turkish champions begin to face questions over Okan Buruk’s position following a heavy defeat to Trabzonspor, Footynaija.com reports.
Osimhen has been unavailable since suffering a right adductor injury in Galatasaray’s 3-2 win over Istanbul Basaksehir on September 4, a match in which he scored before leaving after 32 minutes. He subsequently missed the Champions League defeat to Sporting CP and league games against Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor.
His absence was felt most clearly at Trabzonspor, where Galatasaray suffered a 4-0 defeat on September 19. The Nigerian watched from the sidelines as Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick, leaving the champions with their first league defeat of the season.

Osimhen has already become central to Galatasaray since joining the club permanently. He scored 37 goals and provided eight assists in 41 appearances during his first season in Istanbul, then added 22 goals and eight assists across 33 official games last season. He had also scored six times in his first four league appearances this season before the injury.
The latest coaching talk comes after the Trabzonspor defeat, with Turkish journalist Bülent Timurlenk claiming that there have been discussions behind the scenes about a French coach replacing Buruk.
Timurlenk specifically pointed to Didier Deschamps, who left the France national team after the 2026 World Cup and is currently without a club.
French outlet Football.fr also reported that Deschamps has emerged as a priority for Galatasaray if Buruk leaves.
Buruk, however, has not been sacked. Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek publicly backed him on Monday, saying the club’s confidence in the manager remains unchanged.
