Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has provided a somewhat positive update regarding the expected duration of recovery for injured Super Eagles attacker Ademola Lookman, Footynaija.com reports.
Los Colchoneros revealed on Monday that Lookman as well as fellow forward Alexander Sorloth experienced discomfort during last week’s Copa del Rey final defeat to Real Sociedad and needed time away from the rest of the squad to avoid the risk of a serious injury setback.
That announcement sent a wave of worry through the Atleti fanbase and understandably so as both players, especially Lookman, have been integral to the club’s attacking prowess across all competitions in the second half of the season.
However, Simeone has now come out to allay those fears in a recent press conference with the Argentine gaffer revealing that both Lookman and Sorloth have not suffered serious setbacks and could potentially regain full fitness before Atleti’s weekend clash against Athletic Bilbao.

“Well, we’ll see how Alex Sorloth and Lookman recover from this minor injury they’ve had,” Simeone said via Futbol Fantasy.
“Hopefully they’ll be fully recovered for Saturday, which is possible, according to the doctors, who are more knowledgeable.”
The potential availability of both Lookman and Sorloth for Saturday’s game against Bilbao will certainly be a massive boost for Los Colchoneros, but first, they must find a way to successfully navigate tomorrow’s trip to Elche without the attacking duo.
Atleti will be looking to end their three-game losing streak in La Liga when they rock up to the Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero tomorrow and of course begin to build some positive momentum ahead of next week’s UEFA Champions League semi-final encounter with Arsenal.
