Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Ademola Lookman is working on an individualised training plan away from the squad after picking up discomfort in Saturday’s Copa del Rey final defeat to Real Sociedad, Footynaija.com reports.
The Super Eagles forward scored Atletico’s first goal in the 2-2 draw before being withdrawn in the 62nd minute in what Diego Simeone later framed as a tactical decision.
Reports, however, identified the substitution as partly forced, with Lookman carrying an adductor problem that Simeone chose to manage rather than risk aggravating.

The full picture only emerged on Monday when the club released an official medical statement.
In a statement posted to their official channels, Atletico confirmed.
“Ademola Lookman and Alexander Sorloth finished the Copa del Rey final with discomfort. The club’s medical services have performed tests that advise the utmost caution to avoid the risk of injury, so they will follow an individualized plan in the coming days, working outside the group. The evolution of these discomforts will mark his return to training with his teammates.”
Both Lookman and Sorloth are already ruled out of Wednesday’s La Liga fixture against Elche, with Atletico limited to Julian Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann as attacking options for that game.
Their availability for the following weekend’s match against Athletic Club remains unclear, though the greater concern centres on the first leg of the Arsenal tie at the Metropolitano on April 29.
Losing Lookman for that fixture would be a major blow. He’s been Atletico’s most influential attacker since his January arrival, registering six goals and four assists across 17 appearances, and his directness and ability to produce in big moments have made him central to how Simeone’s side operate in the final third. The Copa del Rey final was further evidence of that, even in defeat.
