Former Nigeria defender Ifeanyi Udeze has pointed to the welcoming environment inside Atlético Madrid as a key reason behind Ademola Lookman’s rapid rise since arriving in Spain, Footynaija reports.
Lookman has wasted no time making his mark in Madrid following his January switch from Atalanta, quickly establishing himself as an important figure under manager Diego Simeone. His direct running, sharp movement, and growing confidence in the final third have already made him a fan favourite.
Udeze, speaking to Brila FM, said the winger’s fast adaptation did not come as a surprise, but stressed that the support from teammates has been crucial.

“I am not surprised Ademola Lookman settled so quickly at Atletico Madrid after he joined the team in the January transfer window,” the former West Brom left-back said.
“Again, we have to give it to the Atletico Madrid players who accepted him and made him feel at home at the club.
“For me, I am generally happy with the performance of Lookman, and I wish him all the best.”
Since completing his €35 million move, Lookman has fitted seamlessly into Atlético’s structure, forming strong on-pitch relationships with senior figures.

His connection with Antoine Griezmann has stood out, with the Nigerian often seen celebrating alongside the experienced forward. With Griezmann expected to depart in the summer, there is already growing belief that Lookman could take on a bigger creative responsibility in the team.
Equally important has been his understanding with Julián Álvarez. The pair have combined effectively in attack, offering pace, movement and intelligent link-up play. That chemistry was on full display in Atlético’s recent Champions League win over Barcelona, where Lookman’s decisive goal helped secure a place in the semi-finals for the first time since 2017.
