Nigeria’s preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) have taken a major step forward with the announcement of a 23-man squad by Super Eagles B head coach Eric Chelle, Footynaija.com reports.
NPFL champions Remo Stars headline the selection, contributing eight players – more than any other club.
Captain Junior Harrison Nduka leads a squad that blends seasoned campaigners like Godwin Obaje and Sikiru Alimi with promising talents such as Ozoemena Ani, Anas Yusuf, and Hadi Haruna.
Notably absent from the list is midfielder Papa Daniel, who was instrumental during the qualifiers. His recent transfer to Slovenian side NK Celje has ruled him out of contention, despite his recent debut for the senior Super Eagles against Ghana.
The team has been camped at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ogun State and is set to fly out to Zanzibar on Thursday for the final phase of preparations, which includes two friendly matches against Zanzibar’s national side.
Nigeria, CHAN bronze medallists in 2014 and silver winners in 2018, are drawn in a tough Group D alongside reigning champions Senegal, Sudan, and Congo.
The Super Eagles B will kick off their campaign on the island of Zanzibar before finishing group play in Dar es Salaam.
