Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru was delighted while reflecting on his goal, labelling it “a wonderful moment,” following Lazio’s 5-1 demolition of Monza in the Serie A on Sunday, Soccernet.football reports.
Dele-Bashiru started the game on the substitute bench and came on in the 65th minute when Lazio led 4-0. Monza went on to score a consolation goal from the penalty spot in the 86th minute but the Nigeria international restored Biancocelesti’s four-goal lead almost immediately with a fine 88th minute strike from inside the box.
The victory over Monza saw Dele-Bashiru’s Lazio leap-frog fellow Champions league qualification hopefuls Juventus on the Serie A standings to nestle in fourth place. They now boast a two-point gap over the Bianconeri while they sit five points behind third placed Atalanta.
Dele-Bashiru’s goal marked his third of the Serie A campaign and the 24-year-old Nigerian could not hide his delight while speaking to Lazio’s official media after the game.
“A perfect week for me, I gave myself a wonderful moment, but the team’s victory is even more important. There is a great group here, it’s the ideal environment. The coach believes in everyone,” he told Lazio’s official media, as quoted by Solo La Lazio.
Shedding light on his celebration, the midfielder continued; “My celebration? It started with Noslin while playing FIFA. The song the fans dedicated to me? It’s something I really enjoy. The coach and the team help me a lot; I’ve improved physically and tactically.”
Dele-Bashiru looks to be finally finding his feet in the league after initially struggling to replicate his Europa League form on the domestic front. The Nigeria international will have his sights set on earning a spot in Eric Chelle’s midfield setup ahead of their must win qualification matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
