Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence after Portugal were eliminated from the 2024 European Championship on Friday, Soccernet.football reports.

Portugal exited the Euros in the quarterfinals following a penalty shootout loss to France after both teams failed to score in full-time and extra time.

Ronaldo, who holds the record for the highest international goals, has been under criticism for his underwhelming performances for the Selecao.

Despite starting all of Portugal’s five games in Germany, the former Real Madrid star failed to score a goal, managing just one assist. It would be recalled that Ronaldo also contributed only one goal during Portugal’s misadventure at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

This has fueled speculations that the 39-year-old Al Nassr forward may be considering calling time on his international career.

However, on Saturday (July 6) Ronaldo made his first comments after the Euro elimination

The former Manchester United star while appreciating the support of Portugal fans, gave no indication that he is ready to retire.

Rather, he opined that Portugal’s legacy needs to be built ‘together’.

Ronaldo posted on X: “We wanted more. We deserved more. For us. For each one of you. For Portugal. We are grateful for everything you have given us and for everything we have achieved so far. On and off the field, I am sure that this legacy will be honored and will continue to be built. Together.”

Ronaldo will be 41 when the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
