Top 5: Roma’s best players of the 2023/2024 season
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

AS Roma began the season heavy with expectations after only just missing out on a second consecutive European triumph under the guidance of Jose Mourinho last season.

However, a poor run of results in the league saw the Portuguese tactician axed and replaced by former Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi mid season.

With the Italian at the helm, the Giallorossi have shown a balanced mixture of offensive prowess and defensive stability and improved their position on the Serie A standings to sixth place.

Soccernet.football has ranked the Giallorossi’s best formers of a resilient Serie A campaign.

5. Leandro Paredes

The World Cup winner made the switch from Paris to Rome for a measly €2.5 million and has gone on to become of the Giallorossi’s most reliable players in the middle of the park this season.

Paredes seemed to receive a new lease of life after the arrival of De Rossi, becoming one of the leading men in a new-look Roma who have transitioned into one of the most entertaining sides in the Serie A.

The Argentina international has contributed 3 goals and 5 assists in 34 Serie A appearances for Roma this season.

4. Romelu Lukaku

The Chelsea loanee has been a key player in attack for the Giallorossi throughout the season, featuring heavily under both Mourinho and De Rossi and contributing significantly to Roma’s resurgence.

Lukaku’s physical presence, strength on the ball and speed has been a source of headache for opposition defenders all season and Roma have certainly benefited from his strengths in games.

Lukaku has found the back of the net on 13 occasions and provided 3 assists in 32 Serie A appearances for the Giallorossi this season.

3. Bryan Cristante

Cristante has been Roma’s unsung hero over the past couple of seasons and has once again proved to be a crucial part of the Giallorossi setup this season, starting all but one of their Serie A matches this season.

The Italian has been the main engine room of Roma this season with his ability to put in high level performances in various positions on the pitch as well as lead his teammates proving vital.

Cristante has contributed 3 goals and 4 assists across 36 Serie A appearances this season.

2. Lorenzo Pellegrini

Pellegrini has grown from ball-boy to skipper for his boyhood club and the 27-year-old has been one of the stars of Roma’s revival after the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

After struggling to find consistency earlier in the season when Mourinho was in charge, the Italian began to enjoy scintillating form after the arrival of De Rossi, contributing significantly to Roma’s push up the league standings.

The Italy international has scored 8 goals and created another 3 across 28 Serie A appearances for the Giallorossi this season.

1. Paulo Dybala

The former Juventus attacker has continued to be an unstoppable force and a precious source of goals and assists for the Giallorossi this season.

Dybala’s talent has never been in doubt but it took the arrival of new head coach De Rossi for the Argentine’s unbridled quality to be unlocked, giving fans a glimpse of the Dybala they once watched in the black and white stripes of Juventus.

Dybala has undoubtedly been Roma’s outstanding performer this season with 13 goals, 9 assists and 6 MOTM performances across 27 Serie A appearances for the Giallorossi this season.
