Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray have revealed that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen did not suffer any major injury during the intercontinental derby against Fenerbahce on Monday, Footynaija.com reports.
Osimhen exited the 0-0 stalemate late on, after feeling some discomfort due to an injury. The 26-year-old was forced to make way for Kaan Ayhan in the 89th minute in a bid to avoid any potential aggravations.
Osimhen’s injury was cause for concern for both Galatasaray and Nigeria as the Super Eagles anticipate their all important 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification games against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
However, Turkish media outlet habersarikirmizi.com revealed that an MRI has confirmed that Osimhen is in good condition and free of a serious injury setback.
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle will be relieved to hear that the highly prolific center forward is free of any major injury concerns and will be available for selection ahead of the must win qualifying fixtures slated to hold in March.
Chelle is already facing serious selection headaches after stars like Raphael Onyedika, Semi Ajayi and Fisayo-Dele Bashiru suffered injury setbacks while representing their various clubs over the weekend.
Osimhen did not train with Galatasaray on Tuesday as the Super Lig leaders commenced preparation for their upcoming match against Konyaspor in the Turkish Cup on Thursday, February 27 at RAMS Arena.
The Nigerian striker is yet to play any minute for Galatasaray in the Turkish Cup competition and his absence from Tuesday’s training session casts further doubts on his potential participation in Thursday’s game.
Perhaps Gala manager Okan Buruc may be looking to afford the Nigeria international with a bit more time to fully recover from whatever minor issues he suffered during the Fenerbahce game.
