Victor Osimhen has set his sights on leading Nigeria’s charge as the Super Eagles look to get their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign back on track, Footynaija.com reports.
Nigeria face must-win fixtures against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March after a sluggish start to their qualifying journey. The Super Eagles sit fifth in their group with just three points, trailing Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin by four points. With only the top team securing an automatic spot, Osimhen and his teammates have no margin for error.
The Galatasaray striker, yet to feature at a World Cup, is determined to correct past mistakes and finally achieve his dream of playing on football’s biggest stage.
“We have to give everything. It’s a dream of every youngster to be at the World Cup and mine is no exception,” Osimhen told Oluwashina Okeleji.
“We are really looking forward to the game against Rwanda to try and correct all the mistakes we’ve made in the past games. We will be ready.”

Osimhen also acknowledged the challenges ahead at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where Nigeria will face Uganda, Tanzania, and Tunisia in the group stage.
“This is African football; this is AFCON. You can get a lot of surprises, but we’re going to take each game as it comes.”
On Nigeria’s new coach, Eric Chelle, Osimhen expressed confidence in his vision.
“I spoke with him a couple of times, and I know the objectives he has set for himself and the players. I’m looking forward to our first training session to feel his presence and know what exactly we can do.”
Osimhen was instrumental in Nigeria’s run to the AFCON final last year, and he will once again be key as the Super Eagles look to secure their place at the World Cup.
