Nigeria’s star forward and Galatasaray talisman, Victor Osimhen has officially filed a lawsuit against a Turkish journalist who accused him of physical assault, Soccernet.football reports.

The legal battle is set to commence in court on Monday, January 26, as the Super Eagles striker looks to defend his reputation and seek justice against what he describes as false allegations.

The controversy stems from an incident involving the journalist, who reportedly took unauthorized photos of Osimhen.

The Nigerian striker has claimed that the journalist’s actions were invasive and unprofessional, prompting a heated confrontation.

Osimhen vehemently denies the assault allegations, labeling them as false, malicious, and unnecessary lies.

Speaking after leading Galatasaray to a crucial 1-0 win over Konyaspor, the forward explained that his actions were solely aimed at protecting his privacy and personal rights.

“If I hit him, he’s going to get justice but if he lied, then, he’s going the full wrath of the law” – Victor Osimhen on the incident that happened at a restaurant. pic.twitter.com/G7oMH5AUHd

Buchi Laba, a Nigerian journalist and close friend of Osimhen, confirmed the lawsuit, revealing that the football star is determined to clear his name in court.

Osimhen has expressed his disappointment at the journalist’s behaviour, emphasizing that he will not tolerate baseless accusations and is prepared to take all necessary legal steps to defend his integrity.

The Turkish journalist, however, maintains that Osimhen became aggressive during their encounter, an account that starkly contrasts with the player’s version of events.

While no physical evidence has yet been presented to substantiate the claims, the upcoming court proceedings will provide an avenue for both sides to present their arguments.

This incident has sparked debate about the ethical responsibilities of journalists when dealing with public figures. While the media has a duty to inform, Osimhen’s case raises questions about the boundaries of journalistic practice, particularly regarding the privacy rights of athletes.

Osimhen’s decision to pursue legal action shows his confidence in his stance and his commitment to safeguarding his reputation.
