Ajax could not have asked for a better start from new signing Tolu Arokodare after the Nigerian striker found the net in his first game for the Dutch club during a 3-1 pre-season win over FC Volendam on Sunday, Footynaija reports.
The Super Eagles forward, who recently joined Ajax from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan with an option to buy, started the match on the bench before coming on in the 71st minute at the Kras Stadion.
By the time Arokodare entered the game, Ajax were already in front thanks to goals from Anton Gaaei and Marcos Leonardo. The 25-year-old then added his own name to the scoresheet late in the match.
In the 88th minute, Gaaei delivered a dangerous cross into the box, causing confusion among the Volendam defenders. Arokodare reacted quickest, collected the loose ball, and calmly finished to seal Ajax’s comfortable victory.
It was the perfect way for the Nigerian to introduce himself to the Ajax fans as the club continues to prepare for the new season.
Arokodare arrived in Amsterdam after spells with Belgian side Racing Genk and Premier League club Wolves. His first goal in Ajax colours will boost his confidence and give the coaching staff more reasons to believe he can become an important player in their attack this season.
