Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega believes the struggling Premier League champions possess “too much quality” within their ranks for their disappointing form to continue for much longer, Soccernet.football reports
The Cityzens find themselves in a very difficult and unexpected position, with the once invincible treble-winners now on a shocking run of nine defeats in their last 12 matches across all competitions.
This slump has dropped City to seventh in the Premier League standings, while they are an astonishing 22nd in the Champions League group stage. With only two match days remaining, they face a serious risk of missing the knockout stages.

City’s second choice goalkeeper Ortega attributed the team’s struggles to a string of injuries to key players, which have disrupted their rhythm. He noted that manager Pep Guardiola has been forced to frequently rotate the squad, affecting the team’s fluency.
“We are all humans. I think it is just normal there is a point where you struggle a little bit and with all the injured players we have,” Ortega said as quoted by the club’s official website.
“You don’t get the good rhythm of all the players playing with each other.”
The German shot-stopper is however confident that City can turn their season around very soon, pointing to the massive amount of quality players on the roster of the reigning champions.
“When you come here, you see all the quality on the pitch, the manager we have, staff, you know there will be a turnaround soon,” said Ortega.
“We created a legacy here and we have the chance now to switch this again and show that we are able to go through a bad phase and get up again.
“There’s too much quality here and I think quite soon we will win games again. We have showed we are able to win a few games in a row as well.”
