Arsenal are reportedly considering Paris Saint-Germain’s football advisor Luis Campos for the vacant role of sporting director, recently vacated by Edu, Soccernet.football understands.

Campos joined PSG as an external consultant in July 2022, having built a strong reputation at Monaco and Lille, where he helped both clubs win the French top-flight title by recruiting a number of key players.

In light of Edu’s unexpected resignation, the Gunners are said to be evaluating the 60-year-old Portuguese as a potential successor, according to Sky Sports.

The club is still in the “early stage” of the search for a new sporting director, with Edu’s assistant, Jason Ayto, assuming greater responsibilities for the upcoming January transfer window.

Additionally, Bayer Leverkusen’s Simon Rolfes and Roberto Olabe, who has recently departed from Real Sociedad, have also been mentioned as candidates for the role.

Campos spent three years at Monaco from 2013 to 2016, where he managed an impressive array of low-cost, high-profit signings, including talents like Bernardo Silva, Fabinho, and, most notably, Kylian Mbappé.

Less than a year after his last transfer window, Monaco claimed the league title, edging out PSG, and reached the Champions League semi-finals.

At Lille, Campos’ sharp recruitment skills also bore good fruit as the club won the Ligue 1 title in the 2020/2021 season. Notable players such as Rafael Leão, Victor Osimhen, and Jonathan David joined Lille during his tenure.

While Campos has been praised for discovering hidden gems at clubs outside the elite tier, some have questioned whether his expertise can be effectively applied in the more expensive markets, which could be a factor for an ambitious Arsenal side looking to win the biggest trophies in the game.
