Turkish football expert Uğur Karakullukçu has hailed Victor Osimhen after the Super Eagles striker moved closer to becoming Galatasaray’s all-time leading foreign goalscorer, Footynaija reports.
Osimhen has scored 68 goals for the Turkish champions, putting him third on the club’s list of top foreign scorers. Mauro Icardi leads with 77 goals, while Romanian great Gheorghe Hagi is second with 72.
The Nigerian scored twice in the first half of Galatasaray’s 2-1 derby win over Fenerbahçe at Rams Park on Monday, taking his tally to 68 goals.
He now needs five more goals to overtake Hagi and 10 to surpass Icardi and claim the record.
Karakullukçu believes Osimhen’s rise has been extraordinary, given how little time he has spent at the club.
“Osimhen is only in his third season and looks set to become Galatasaray’s all-time top-scoring foreign player. It’s truly mind-boggling. We may never see a player like him in the Süper Lig again,” he said, via Habersarikirmizi.
Osimhen scored 35 goals in all competitions during the 2024-25 season, breaking the record for the most goals scored by a foreign player in a single Turkish season. The previous mark belonged to Mario Jardel, who scored 34 goals in the 2000-01 campaign.
He has also become Galatasaray’s highest-scoring foreign player in European competitions, reaching 14 goals in the Champions League against Lille and surpassing the previous marks set by Milan Baroš and Shabani Nonda.
The Nigerian also became the fastest player in the club’s modern history to score 50 goals, reaching the milestone in just 59 appearances.
