Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has earned praise from Genoa manager Daniele De Rossi ahead of Venezia’s Serie A clash with their domestic rivals on Sunday, Footynaija.com reports.
The Nigerian forward has made an encouraging start to life at Venezia following his summer move from Sevilla, with his recent match-winning strike against Napoli providing a timely boost for the struggling club.
Speaking ahead of the meeting at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium, De Rossi revealed that Genoa had considered signing Adams before he joined their Serie A rivals, describing the forward as an important player.

“Akor Adams was on our list, we evaluated him, we always considered him an important player,” the Genoa manager said, as quoted by Italian outlet Pianeta Genoa.
“He’s doing well, he’s doing what he has to do, and at a time when his team has earned fewer goals and fewer points than they deserved.”

Adams heads into Sunday’s encounter on the back of a decisive performance against Napoli, where his second league goal of the season secured Venezia’s first victory of the campaign.
The 26-year-old has scored four goals across all competitions this season, giving the newly promoted side an attacking threat as they attempt to climb away from the foot of the Serie A table.
Venezia’s victory over Napoli offered fresh encouragement after a difficult opening run, with new manager Davide Nicola looking to build on the defensive organisation and resilience displayed in that encounter.

However, Sunday’s meeting presents another demanding test, with Genoa also seeking points after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Roma in their previous league outing.
Just one point separates the two sides heading into the contest, making the fixture an important opportunity for both clubs to improve their position in the standings.
For Adams, the encounter also offers a chance to continue his promising start in Italy against a club that previously considered bringing him on board.
