Paul Onuachu is expected to miss Trabzonspor’s Turkish Super Lig clash with Beşiktaş on Monday after suffering an injury during their UEFA Conference League match against KuPS Kuopio, Footynaija reports.
The Nigerian striker was absent from Trabzonspor’s final training session ahead of the encounter. This has raised doubts over his availability for the important league fixture at Papara Park.
According to Turkish outlet Trabz10.net, Onuachu is unlikely to feature against Beşiktaş as he continues to deal with the injury he sustained in Europe. The forward was forced off shortly after scoring against KuPS, leaving Trabzonspor with a potential problem in attack.
With Onuachu expected to miss the game, attention has turned to Franculino Djú as a possible replacement in the starting line-up.
The forward made an immediate impact after coming on for the injured Super Eagles striker against KuPS, scoring twice to help Trabzonspor secure a 4-2 victory.
His performance has strengthened his case to lead the attack against Beşiktaş, although the final decision will rest with head coach Thomas Reis.
Onuachu’s absence would deprive Trabzonspor of a physical presence in the final third and a striker capable of troubling defenders in the air.
The club will hope to manage the setback without losing their attacking threat as they prepare for Monday’s showdown.
A win for 5th-place Trabzonspor will see them overtake Beşiktaş on the Super Lig table.
