Nigeria indicated their readiness for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a commanding 3-0 victory over Senegal at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Monday, Footynaija reports.

After a goalless first half, the Super Falcons raised the tempo after the break and overwhelmed the Teranga Lionesses with three unanswered goals. The star of the afternoon was Nottingham Forest forward Joy Omewa, who scored twice before veteran striker Asisat Oshoala came off the bench to complete the rout.

Head coach Justine Madugu used the friendly to continue fine-tuning his squad ahead of next month’s WAFCON in Morocco. Having already defeated Senegal 2-1 a few days ago, Nigeria once again proved too strong for their West African rivals.

The Falcons dominated possession from the opening whistle, with captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Toni Payne controlling the midfield and creating several promising openings. However, Senegal’s defence held firm long enough to ensure the teams went into the interval level.

Nigeria finally found the breakthrough four minutes into the second half when Shukurat Oladipo delivered an inviting cross that Omewa met with a powerful header. The goal sparked a dominant spell from the hosts, and Omewa doubled the advantage seven minutes later after capitalising on a defensive lapse before calmly finishing past the goalkeeper.

Madugu then introduced Oshoala, and the experienced striker wasted little time making an impact. In the 66th minute, Ajibade produced a superb run to reach a long pass before squaring for Oshoala, who tapped home from close range to seal the win.
