Former Bayern Munich midfielder Dietmar Hamann has suggested Victor Osimhen could be an ideal signing for Newcastle United, Footynaija reports.
Hamann, who enjoyed an excellent playing career across England and Germany, insists a move to Liverpool is unlikely for Osimhen given the Reds’ current attacking options.
Osimhen, who has been in strong form for Galatasaray, continues to attract interest ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window. But Hamann believes Newcastle may offer the clearest path for the Nigerian forward to thrive in the Premier League.
Speaking about potential destinations, Hamann said via Fanatik: “Liverpool already has two players in that position, so nothing will happen there for Osimhen. However, he has pace, power, and clinical finishing. If Newcastle United sells Nick Woltemade, Osimhen could be a perfect fit for them.”
Liverpool’s forward line has evolved under manager Arne Slot, with Hugo Ekitiké and Alexander Isak leading the attack, supported by versatile options such as Cody Gakpo. That depth, according to Hamann, makes a move to Anfield unlikely.
By contrast, Newcastle are still adjusting following the departure of Isak, with Eddie Howe relying on a more flexible attacking system led by Woltemade and Yoane Wissa. The club are expected to strengthen further, and Hamann sees Osimhen as a natural fit for their high-intensity style.
The former Germany international also admitted surprise that Osimhen did not move to England earlier. “I couldn’t believe Osimhen transferred to Turkey. I was truly surprised that no English team signed him. Last summer, almost everyone had a problem at the center-forward position.”
Hamann added: “Osimhen is an extraordinary player. The reason Galatasaray is performing so well in the league is likely because of him. I enjoy watching him. I believe if he played in the Premier League, he would significantly strengthen whichever team he joined.”
Turkish giants Galatasaray are, however, in no rush to see Osimhen leave barely a year after completing his 75 million euros transfer from Napoli.
