With qualification already secured, Nigeria’s final Group C meeting with Uganda presents Eric Chelle with a familiar tournament dilemma: stick or twist, footynaija.com reports.

The Super Eagles head coach has made it clear that sentiment will not shape his selections, but context surely must. This is a dead rubber in terms of progression, yet a vital dress rehearsal for the knockout rounds.

A big night awaits in Fez. Uganda vs Nigeria.

Chelle’s public defence of his choices has been consistent and logical. Against Tunisia, he wanted aggression and intensity, and selected accordingly. Individual disappointment, he insists, is secondary to collective success. That philosophy has carried Nigeria safely through the group, but the Uganda game now demands a slightly different calculation.

Tournament football is unforgiving. Fresh legs matter. Small knocks accumulate. Momentum must be protected without gambling with key assets. Chelle’s own words underline the point: this is not a competition for just 11 players. It is about managing the group, not indulging it.

In goal, rotation feels almost unavoidable. Stanley Nwabali’s minor injury concerns make this the ideal moment to hand Francis Uzoho a start, easing pressure on Nigeria’s first-choice keeper while maintaining experience between the posts.

Across eight meetings, Nigeria have recorded 2 wins, 2 draws, and 4 losses against Uganda.

With qualification for the knockout stage already secured, what should be the priority on Tuesday?

Defensively, wholesale changes would be unnecessary. Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi and Bruno Onyemaechi have offered stability, but the right side could be refreshed. Ryan Alebiosu’s athleticism and energy make him a strong candidate to replace the inconsistent Bright Osayi-Samuel and earn a first cap without compromising balance.

Midfield is where Chelle can be bold. Wilfred Ndidi’s importance is beyond doubt, which is precisely why he should be protected. Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka or youngster Ebenezer Akinsanmiro offer different profiles but sufficient security. Alex Iwobi should keep his rhythm, while Fisayo Dele-Bashiru deserves minutes to sharpen competition.

32 goals in 48 appearances for the Super Eagles of Nigeria and a remarkable 0.67 goals-per-game return.

Up front, the logic is clearest. There is little sense risking Victor Osimhen. Instead, pairing Ademola Lookman with Paul Onuachu offers a valuable tactical experiment, with Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze providing width and unpredictability.

Rotation, then, is not about weakening Nigeria. It is about sharpening the whole squad, and Chelle’s management skills may matter as much here as any tactical tweak.
