Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek has issued a firm two-week recovery timeline for Victor Osimhen after scans confirmed the striker suffered a mild hamstring tear and internal bleeding while on international duty with Nigeria, Footynaija.com reports.
Osimhen picked up the injury during the first half of Nigeria’s dramatic World Cup playoff against DR Congo, a match the Super Eagles lost 4-3 on penalties to end their hopes of reaching the 2026 World Cup.
The 26-year-old flew back to Istanbul for an MRI scan, and club doctors quickly identified the extent of the damage.
Though the injury is significant enough to rule him out of upcoming games, Galatasaray remain confident he will return before their season-defining derby against rivals Fenerbahçe on December 1.
“His MRI was performed here,” president Özbek explained. “He’ll likely have a recovery period of approximately two weeks. Our focus is on Osimhen being ready for the Fenerbahçe match. Our doctors are working on that.”
Osimhen will miss the league match against Gençlerbirliği and the Champions League tie against Union Saint-Gilloise. Osimhen is, however, expected to be fit in time for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which begins in Morocco on December 21.
