Nigeria’s Super Falcons stormed into the third round of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games qualifiers after thrashing Comoros 5-0 in the second leg on Tuesday, Footynaija reports.
The emphatic victory gave the 10-time African champions a 7-0 aggregate triumph after their 2-0 win in the first leg, where Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu scored.
Toni Payne, Kanu and Christy Ucheibe were among the goalscorers as Nigeria produced an impressive attacking display to book a meeting with Morocco in the next round.
The Super Falcons retained the side that won the first leg and initially struggled to turn their dominance into goals.
Kanu, Gift Monday and captain Rasheedat Ajibade missed promising opportunities, while Comoros goalkeeper Aicha Said made important saves to keep the visitors in contention.
Nigeria eventually broke the deadlock four minutes before half-time. Kanu capitalised on a mistake by Said before squaring the ball for Payne, who finished confidently to give the hosts a deserved lead.
The Super Falcons continued to press after the restart, with Kanu narrowly missing an opportunity from a fine cross by Jennifer Echegini.
Nigeria doubled their lead in the 58th minute when Kanu rose highest to head home a superb cross from substitute Folashade Ijamilusi.
Five minutes later, Payne completed her brace after Blessing Okpe produced an excellent run, dribbling past two defenders before setting up the forward to score.
Kanu then grabbed her second goal of the night in the 66th minute, meeting another inviting delivery from Ijamilusi with a powerful header to make it 4-0.
Okpe continued to torment the Comoros defence and won a penalty in the 70th minute after another impressive run.
Ucheibe stepped up and confidently converted the spot-kick to complete Nigeria’s five-goal rout.
Okpe and Ijamilusi were outstanding after coming on, providing two assists apiece as Nigeria overwhelmed their opponents in the second half.
The result is the Super Falcons’ first five-goal-margin victory since their quarter-final triumph over Zambia at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria will now turn their attention to Morocco, with a place in the next stage of the Olympic qualifying campaign at stake.
