Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade is set to undergo an MRI scan after suffering an injury during Nigeria’s 5-0 victory over Comoros in the second leg of their 2028 Olympic women’s football qualifiers, Footynaija.com reports.
The midfielder was forced off in the 23rd minute of Tuesday’s encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne after a collision with a Comoros defender left her in visible pain.
Ajibade was eventually stretchered off and replaced by Folashade Ijamilusi, leaving Nigeria to finish the first half without their captain despite dominating the contest.
Speaking after the match, Super Falcons caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen revealed that the medical team had taken Ajibade to the hospital for an MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury.
“Ajibade, I have not heard anything. I was with the medical team and they said they are taking her to the hospital for an MRI to ascertain the degree of the injury,” Eguavoen told reporters.
“Hopefully, before we get back to the hotel we will know. As soon as we have information I’m not the one to give it, the medical team will contact the Head of Media, and then we’ll get an update on Ajibade’s injury.
“Unfortunately, we lost Ajibade early in the game. I think and I hope that the injury is very minor.”

Ajibade’s fitness will now be a concern for Paris Saint-Germain, with the midfielder set to return to club duties alongside her Super Falcons teammates after the conclusion of Nigeria’s October international assignments.
The 27-year-old, who represented Nigeria at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and started all three of the team’s matches against Brazil, Spain and Japan, remains an important figure for the national side.
Nigeria have already secured their place in the third round of the 2028 Olympic qualifiers, where they will face Morocco. However, with the next round still ahead, the immediate priority will be establishing the extent of Ajibade’s injury and how long she might be sidelined. The results of her MRI scan should provide a clearer picture of the situation.
