Former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson believes Alexander Isak just shades Victor Osimhen in the debate over Europe’s most complete strikers, Footynaija.com reports.
Robson, though, admits the Nigerian showed again on Tuesday night why he belongs at the very top.
Osimhen struck the decisive penalty in Galatasaray’s impressive 1-0 Champions League victory over Liverpool in Istanbul, a goal that also saw him become the first Nigerian to reach double figures in the competition.
But while the 26-year-old continues to deliver on Europe’s biggest stage, Robson questioned why the forward is playing in Turkey rather than leading the line for one of the continent’s elite.
“There are lots of big clubs that should have taken him but didn’t take the chance,” Robson said on ESPN.
“But what he showed tonight was a great awareness of where the space was. He kept pulling out down the side of Van Dijk into the space that Kerkez had left. He was good with his back to goal and a constant threat.
“Yes, he scored a penalty, but he’s a top-class player. He’s got energy, he’s got pace, he’s got strength as well, and he’s not bad in the air.”
However, Robson still placed Liverpool’s £145m signing Isak just ahead of Osimhen in his rankings.
“If you look between Isak and him, I still would say Isak is slightly better, but he won’t be far off.”
Osimhen, highest goalscorer award winner in Italy and Turkey, now has three goals in five appearances for Galatasaray, while Isak has only managed to find the net once since his record move to Liverpool.
