Tolu Arokodare came off the bench and struck late as Wolves beat Everton 2-0 in the Carabao Cup at Molineux, easing the pressure on head coach Vítor Pereira after a torrid start to the season, Footynaija.com reports.
The 24-year-old, signed from Genk on deadline day for £23m, raced onto João Gomes’ pass in the 87th minute and clipped the ball past Mark Travers for his first goal in English football.
It sealed a morale-boosting win and Wolves’ second victory of the competition against Premier League opposition.
Marshall Munetsi had put the hosts in front midway through the first half, slamming in the rebound after Travers failed to deal with Jhon Arias’ volley. That lifted the crowd of 18,758, many of whom had arrived restless following five straight league defeats.
Everton responded after the break. Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were thrown on as David Moyes’ side chased an equaliser. James Garner came closest, rattling the bar from a free-kick before being denied again by Sam Johnstone from distance.
But Wolves held firm, and Arokodare’s calm finish ensured there would be no repeat of last month’s 3-2 league defeat to Everton at the same ground.

The Super Eagles forward’s strike could prove a turning point as Pereira looks to settle a side rooted to the bottom of the Premier League.
Everton, meanwhile, saw another route to long-awaited silverware shut off. It has been 30 years since the Toffees last lifted a major trophy, and Moyes will know his side’s Carabao Cup exit only adds to the scrutiny after their derby defeat to Liverpool at the weekend.
For Wolves, the win buys time and belief. Pereira’s men now head to Tottenham on Saturday before hosting Brighton, desperate to carry cup form into a league campaign already threatening to unravel.
