Victor Osimhen is edging closer to full fitness, and there is growing optimism inside Galatasaray that their record signing will be available when they face Liverpool in the Champions League later this month, Footynaija.com reports.
The Nigerian striker, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury since international duty, has already missed league action and the heavy defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek. His absence has been felt, with Galatasaray struggling to find the same cutting edge up front.
Reports from Turkey suggest that while he will not be risked in the immediate games, the club’s plan is to reintegrate him gradually before handing him a leading role against Liverpool in what could be a defining night for their European campaign.
According to Galatasaray reporter Yakup Çınar on the Yeni Açık YouTube channel, “Osimhen’s chances of playing in the Konyaspor match are out of the question.”
He explained that the striker could instead get some minutes against Alanyaspor, before being declared fully ready for the Champions League clash with Liverpool and the Istanbul derby against Beşiktaş.
“His condition is not serious, but they don’t want to risk it,” Çınar added.
The news offers Galatasaray fans a huge boost after weeks of anxiety, especially given how central Osimhen has been to their plans since his big move.
Galatasaray’s handling of Osimhen’s injury has been cautious throughout. From arranging a private jet to bring him back for assessments, to his intense recovery schedule, the club have been clear they want him firing for the big nights rather than rushing him back too soon.
