Turkish Super Lig giants Besiktas Istanbul have poured cold water on the rampant speculations linking them with a summer move for seven-capped Super Eagles and Al Fayha forward Henry Onyekuru, Footynaija.com reports.
Recent reports in the Nigerian and Turkish media space suggested that Besiktas and Fenerbahce were locked in a transfer battle for Onyekuru. According to these reports, Besiktas had been in talks with the player for several days and were hopeful of finalizing a deal, but Fenerbahce reportedly submitted a better offer that shifted the momentum in their favour.
Despite these claims being widely reported, it appears that there was never any truth to them, at least, according to Besiktas themselves. The 16-time Super Lig champions have taken to their official X account to clarify their stance regarding the ongoing speculations.

“The news published in the visual press and social media claiming that our Club held transfer talks with professional football player Henry Onyekuru is completely unfounded,” the statement read.
“We kindly request that you follow all developments regarding our Football A Team through our official channels and not to rely on news that has not been shared by our Club. Best regards, Besiktas JK.”
Besiktas’ statement has cast a huge cloud over a potential return to the Turkish Super Lig for Onyekuru. The 27-year-old forward previously thrived in Turkey during multiple loan spells at Galatasaray.
He notably helped the Lions to a domestic double during his first loan spell in the 2018/2019 campaign with his goal in a 2-1 win over fellow title hopefuls Istanbul Basaksehir, sealing the Super Lig crown for Gala that season.
At his current club Al Fayha, Onyekuru is a key player for the team. The former Monaco star has registered 11 goals and three assists in 38 appearances for the Saudi Pro League club so far.
