“Sometimes you may need to make sacrifices” – Okochaʼs blunt message on Osimhen amid transfer speculation

Former Super Eagles captain Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has shared a sincere message about Victor Osimhen’s future, saying sometimes sacrifices are necessary in football, a comment that has stirred reactions as the Nigerian striker’s transfer talks continue, Footynaija.com reports.

Osimhen had a stunning season on loan at Galatasaray after a tough fallout with Napoli. The 26-year-old forward scored 37 goals and added 8 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions, helping Okan Buruk’s side win both the Turkish Super Lig and the Turkish Cup.

Following his success in Turkey, Osimhen has been strongly linked with moves to Premier League sides Manchester United and Chelsea, Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, and Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal. Galatasaray are also pushing to sign him permanently, but nothing has been finalised.

In a recent interview with TRT Spor, as revealed by Haberler, Okocha, who played in Turkey for Fenerbahçe between 1996 and 1998, praised the Turkish football culture while weighing in on Osimhen’s situation.

“Turkey is a great place to play and live football,” Okocha said. “Sometimes you may need to make sacrifices when making decisions in football. Osimhen had a great season at Galatasaray. Ultimately, he is happy there. Why shouldn’t he stay with the team?”

While Okocha admitted he does not know what Osimhen will decide, his words suggest that the striker may have to give something up to continue where he has found form and happiness.

“I love Turkey. He loves it too,” Okocha added. “Wherever he decides to go, I wish him the best.”
