Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, has praised the freshly minted Nigeria Professional Football League champions Remo Stars for the “perseverance” and “consistency” that enabled them secure a first-ever triumph in Nigeria’s top-flight, Footynaija.com reports.

With head coach Daniel Ogunmodede at the helm of affairs, Remo Stars have been the most outstanding team in the Nigeria Professional Football League this season. The Sky Blue Stars have recorded 68 points from 35 rounds of matches. With a ten point gap at the summit and only three games left to play, their status as champions has been confirmed.

Remo’s NPFL triumph is one for the history books. Not only is it their first-ever success in Nigeria’s top division, it also marks the first triumph by a team from the South-West region in 25 years with Julius Berger (2000) being the last team from the region to win it.

The Sky Blue Stars’ success has earned deserved plaudits from Governor Abiodun, who hailed the Ikenne based team for their commitment and determination to achieving their recent success.

“It is my utmost delight that the age-long perseverance and consistency of the Remo Stars Football team have eventually paid off at the national level and to the admiration of every Nigerian, including our amiable President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” a statement revealed by the Sporting Tribune.

“As the first privately-owned NPFL champions since 1996, who ceremoniously secured a place in the CAF Champions League, we commend the undiluted and unwavering determination of the players, the coaching staff, as well as the entire management.

“This is indeed the clear reflection of the profound trait of Ogun State as the first in all areas of success and our all-inclusive policy of transformation as enshrined in our ISEYA mantra.”
