Ethan Nwaneri’s uncertain future at Arsenal has taken another turn, with Everton reportedly ready to make a move for the Nigerian-eligible midfielder as AC Milan continue to explore a different route for the teenage star, Footynaija.com reports.
Arsenal are understood to be looking for around €35 million (£30 million) for Nwaneri. That figure could make a permanent move more attractive to Everton, especially with Milan currently considering a loan deal with an option to buy.
Nwaneri has returned to Arsenal after a difficult spell with Marseille. He joined the French club in January hoping to get regular first-team football, but his time in France did not go as planned. He finished the loan spell with two goals and one assist from 11 appearances.
The 19-year-old still has a long-term contract at Arsenal. His current deal runs until 2030, so the Gunners are in a strong position if they decide that a permanent sale is the best option.
The situation has also attracted interest from several clubs. AC Milan have made enquiries, while Everton, Fulham and RB Leipzig have also been linked with the attacking midfielder in recent days.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Everton are prepared to take advantage of Milan’s current preference for a loan with an option. The Premier League club could instead give Arsenal the sort of permanent offer they are looking for.
For Nigeria, Nwaneri’s next move carries another layer of interest.
Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has been following the youngster closely and sees him as a player who could add something different to Nigeria’s midfield. Chelle watched Nwaneri in person during Marseille’s 3-0 win over Rennes in February, even though his main reason for attending the match was also to check on new Nigerian signing Tochukwu Nnadi.
