Kelechi Iheanacho has spoken of his delight after scoring the winner that moved Celtic level on points with Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts, insisting he is always prepared to contribute whether he starts or comes off the bench, Footynaija.com reports.

The Super Eagles star needed just 151 seconds after entering the pitch to settle a tense 2-1 victory over Hibernian at Easter Road on Sunday, controlling a corner kick with his chest before driving it low into the corner with his left foot.

It was his fourth goal in five games and his seventh across all competitions for Celtic this season, coming at the most critical stage of a three-way title race that also involves Rangers.

Celtic had led through Daizen Maeda’s 41st-minute tap-in before Hibernian captain Joe Newell levelled in controversial circumstances in first-half stoppage time, with replays suggesting the ball struck his arm before he prodded it home.

The goal stood despite a VAR review, and Iheanacho’s introduction in the 70th minute proved to be the decisive moment.

‘Need to just get my head straight’

Speaking to Sky Sports Scotland after the final whistle, the 29-year-old reflected on what has become a familiar role for him in Celtic’s run-in.

“I’m really pleased, I’m happy to be an impact in the game. For my teammates and for the club,” he said.

He also said his mindset never changes regardless of whether he starts.

“I’m always ready, whether I’m starting or coming on. Need to just get my head straight, great finish. We win the game, three points, it’s important for us going forward.”

On how Celtic finally broke Hibs down, Iheanacho pointed to patience as the key.

“We need patience to move them side to side, to create the chances and the space. We did that and we scored through a set-piece. That’s what matters.”

Celtic remain level on points with Hearts, who hold a superior goal difference and a game in hand. The Hoops travel to Ibrox to face Rangers next weekend before Hearts visit Celtic Park on the final day of the season on May 16.
