Taiwo Awoniyi delivered a statement performance against Chelsea, scoring twice to guide Nottingham Forest to an impressive 3-1 victory at Stamford Bridge, Footynaija reports.
Marking his 100th appearance for Forest, the Nigerian forward wasted no time in making his presence felt. Inside just two minutes, he met a teasing cross with a firm header to give the visitors a dream start. It was a goal that set the tone for a confident attacking display and immediately put Chelsea on the back foot.
Awoniyi’s sharp movement continued to trouble the home defence, and he played a direct role in Forest’s second goal. His pace and awareness drew a foul inside the box, leading to a penalty that was calmly converted by Igor Jesus to double the advantage.
Chelsea had a chance to respond before the break when they were awarded a penalty of their own, but Cole Palmer failed to convert, missing from the spot in what proved a costly moment.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Forest remaining organised and dangerous on the counter. Awoniyi then capped his performance with a second goal, finishing from close range after a well-worked move to effectively put the game beyond reach.
It is his first brace since 2023, coincidentally also against Chelsea, and a reminder of his ability to deliver in big moments. The former Union Berlin man also becomes the first Nigerian to net a double in two separate games against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
A late consolation from João Pedro came too late to change the outcome, as Forest secured a result that lifts them further clear of the relegation zone.
