Ivory Coast delivered an eye-catching display by thrashing the Turks and Caicos Islands 15-1 in Abidjan to move within touching distance of Nigeria’s long-standing record victory, Footynaija reports.

The emphatic win, recorded during the FIFA Women’s Series, is now the biggest in the country’s history and a timely reminder of their attacking potential ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

From the opening minutes, the Ivorians showed ruthless intent. Quick passing, sharp movement and relentless pressing overwhelmed their opponents, with goals arriving in waves. By the midway point of the first half, the contest was effectively over, as Ivory Coast surged into a commanding lead. Even a brief response from the visitors did little to slow the momentum, with the hosts stretching the scoreline to 9-1 by half-time and continuing their dominance after the break.

Several players shared the goals, a pointer to the team’s collective strength in attack. Ami Diallo and Priscille Kreto led the charge with four goals each, while Ines Akissi Konan added a hat-trick. The result surpassed Ivory Coast’s previous best win and instantly drew comparisons with Nigeria’s record-setting 15-0 victory over Niger in 2019.

That Super Falcons triumph remains the benchmark in African women’s football. On that day, Nigeria combined efficiency with experience, scoring freely while barely facing any threat defensively.

Ivory Coast’s latest result does not quite match that record, but it brings them level in terms of goals scored and signals clear progress. It also adds intrigue ahead of WAFCON 2026 in Morocco, where both nations will again be among the teams to watch.

Despite the statement victory, Ivory Coast still have ground to make up. Nigeria remain the continent’s most successful side, with an unmatched record of titles and consistency. The Ivorians, by contrast, are rebuilding and returning to prominence after years away from the top level.

While the Super Falcons boast an incredible 10 WAFCON crowns, Ivory Coast’s best outing at the tournament was a third-place finish in 2014.
