Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika has been nominated for the Belgian Pro League’s Ebony Shoe award after another stellar campaign in the middle of the park for Club Brugge, Footynaija.com reports.
The Ebony Shoe is annually awarded to the best player of African descent in the Belgian top flight and Onyedika has been unveiled as one amongst five other nominees who have also enjoyed outstanding campaigns for their various clubs.
This season, Onyedika has been one of the best players in the Belgian Pro League, with the 24-year-old midfielder consistently churning out impressive performances for Club Brugge as they compete at the top of league.
The Nigeria international has started 21 of his 25 Pro League appearances this season while he also starred for Brugge in the UEFA Champions League, making four goal contributions in ten outings as they reached the play-off rounds.
Interestingly, another player of Nigerian descent, Promise David is also on the list of nominees. David, a former Nigeria U-23 international now provisionally cap-tied to Canada, plies his trade as a striker for Union St. Gilliose.
Other nominees include Zakaria El Ouahdi (Racing Genk), Parfait Guiagon (Charleroi), and Adem Zorgane (Royale Union Saint-Gilloise).
Super Eagles and Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Tolu Arokodare claimed last year’s prize after an absolutely outstanding goal-scoring campaign for Genk.
Onyedika, who was also nominated for the award last year, will be looking to join the likes of Daniel Amokachi, Victor Ikpeba, Godwin Okpara, Celestine Babayaro and Paul Onuachu on the list of Nigerians that have won the prestigious award.
The winner of the year’s award will be announced on Monday, May 4 at the Hotel Tangla in Brussels.
