Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has urged Chelsea to go all out for the signature of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, following the Blues’ struggles in that center forward department this season, Footynaija.com reports.
Chelsea’s current strikers Joao Pedro (10) and Liam Delap (3) have registered just 13 goals in a combined tally of 52 appearances across all competitions so far this season.
Meanwhile, Osimhen boasts a tally of 12 goals in just 16 games across all competitions for Galatasaray. He also has four goals from six games at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
With Chelsea’s front men failing to produce the goods on a consistent basis, Mikel is once again urging the six-time Premier League winners to try and lure Osimhen to Stamford Bridge.

“Victor Osimhen,” the Champions League winner with Chelsea said while speaking to Sky Sports about a fix for the Blues’ striker department. “He can stretch the play, he can run behind, he can come short, he can score goals, he can do everything.
“You need that experienced striker who’s been there, done it, knows how to win big games, knows how to score in big games, knows how to be in the right place at the right time.”
Mikel was a massive preacher of the Osimhen gospel last summer, emphasizing on numerous occasions that the former Napoli striker was the ideal candidate to become Chelsea’s focal point in attack.
For the record, Mikel’s calls for the Blues to sign Osimhen wasn’t a matter of mere sentiment as the 27-year-old striker, fresh off a prolific and recording loan spell at Galatasaray was arguably the hottest striking talent available on the market.
However, Chelsea opted to sign Pedro and Delap from Brighton and Ipswich Town respectively. Osimhen meanwhile completed a deal to rejoin Galatasaray on a permanent transfer.
