Former head coach of the Super Eagles Finidi George has voiced his support for Kelechi Iheanacho’s summer transfer to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic, Footynaija.com reports.
Iheanacho was one of several Super Eagles stars who secured summer transfers on deadline day with the former Manchester City forward committing his talents to Celtic after the termination of his contract at Sevilla.
The 28-year-old striker had failed to settle into life in Seville and after his unconvincing loan spell at Middlesbrough during the second half of the 2024/2025 campaign, it was always only a matter of time before both parties went their separate ways.

However, Finidi, who witnessed Iheanacho’s talent first-hand during his brief stint as head coach of the Super Eagles believes the Scottish Premiership and Celtic in particular is the perfect stage for the former Leicester City forward to revive his career.
What Finidi George said about Kelechi Iheanacho

“Kelechi is a proven talent and I think Celtic is the perfect stage for him to show that again,” Finidi, who currently coaches NPFL club Rivers United, told Footy-Africa.
“Sometimes players just need the right environment, a club that believes in them. He’s got the quality, and I believe he will deliver.
“Celtic play attacking football, and Kelechi thrives in that kind of setup. It’s not easy to come back after a tough spell, but great players always find a way. He has the hunger, and this is his chance.”

Iheanacho, whose transfer to Celtic sees him reunite with former Leicester City manager and teammate Brendan Rogers and Kasper Schmeichel respectively, will most likely lead the line for the Scottish champions as they look to defend their crown.
Having been omitted from the latest Super Eagles squad as a result of his struggles, Iheanacho will certainly be desperate to get his career back on track and reclaim his spot in the national team setup.
