As we revealed earlier, the mix of overseas-based youngsters, and homegrown stars has given fans real confidence about what this group can achieve. There has also been growing talk from rivals, with Norway’s coach Bjørn Johansen admitting that the Nigerians bring a level of power and presence that will test any side in the group.
Now, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the Flying Eagles will play two international friendlies as part of their 12-day training camp in Chile.
The first is against the hosts, Chile, on Saturday, 20 September, followed by a clash with Australia three days later, on Tuesday, 23 September. Both matches will serve as final rehearsals before the Group F opener against Norway on 29 September in Talca.
The Flying Eagles head into this World Cup with history on their side. They remain the most successful team in Africa at U-20 level, having lifted the continental crown seven times.
Their last World Cup run in Argentina ended at the semi-final stage, losing to South Korea after extra time, and the team is eager to go further this time.
