Felix Nnaemeka Agu is officially eligible to represent Nigeria at senior international level, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed, footynaija.com reports.

The Werder Bremen full-back has received clearance following communication from the German Football Association (DFB), who clarified that Agu had never featured in any official competitive match for Germany—at senior or youth level.

According to a statement posted on the NFF’s official X page on Saturday, the DFB noted that Agu’s only involvement with Germany came in 2019 when he played two friendly matches for the U21 side. As those appearances were non-competitive, FIFA eligibility rules permit Agu to switch international allegiance.

The confirmation clears a path for Agu to potentially make his debut for the Super Eagles in Wednesday’s high-profile Unity Cup clash against Ghana at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium.

Though initially invited to join the Nigeria squad ahead of the Unity Cup, Agu had not yet linked up with the team when the NFF secured the final clearance.

His inclusion now boosts head coach Eric Chelle’s defensive options as Nigeria prepare for key fixtures, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Agu, born in Osnabrück to Nigerian parents, has been closely monitored by the NFF as part of an ongoing strategy to tap into diaspora talent. The 24-year-old’s versatility and Bundesliga experience make him a valuable asset in Nigeria’s rebuilding plans.
