Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho on loan from Sevilla until the end of the season, Soccernet.football reports.

The 28-year-old striker returns to England after a brief spell in La Liga, bringing his wealth of experience to Michael Carrick’s squad as they push for promotion from the Championship. Iheanacho, who spent his formative years at Manchester City, qualifies as a homegrown player for Boro, adding further value to the deal.

Iheanacho boasts an impressive pedigree, having made over 300 senior appearances across club competitions.

He began his professional career at Manchester City, where he won the League Cup as a teenager before joining Leicester City in 2017. During his six-year spell at the King Power Stadium, he played a crucial role in Leicester’s 2021 FA Cup triumph, scoring key goals in their historic run.

His return to English football comes at a critical time for Middlesbrough, who currently sit fifth in the Championship standings and are aiming to secure a playoff spot. With 85 career goals to his name, Iheanacho’s arrival provides Carrick’s side with a much-needed boost in the final third.

The Nigerian forward had attracted interest from clubs across Europe, including Greek sides PAOK and Panathinaikos, as well as Italian outfit Venezia. However, he prioritized a return to England, and Middlesbrough’s ambition proved decisive in sealing the deal.

Sevilla granted Iheanacho permission to travel for his medical after leaving him out of training on Sunday, paving the way for his move to the Riverside Stadium.

With his proven track record in English football, Iheanacho could be the difference-maker Boro need as they look to return to the Premier League.
