Blackburn Rovers have won the race to sign Emmanuel Dennis on loan from Nottingham Forest, bolstering their attacking options for the remainder of the season, Soccernet.football reports.

The 27-year-old forward has been out of favour at the City Ground and has not featured for Forest this season after being left out of their 25-man Premier League squad.

Several clubs, including Watford and Sheffield Wednesday, had shown interest in the Nigerian international, but Rovers moved quickly to strike a deal before the transfer deadline.

Dennis first made a name for himself at Belgian club Club Brugge, where he gained global recognition after scoring twice against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu in the Champions League.

He moved to English football in 2021, joining Watford, where he impressed with 10 goals and six assists in 33 Premier League appearances despite the club’s relegation.

His performances earned him a move to Nottingham Forest in 2022, but he struggled to establish himself, managing just two league goals in six starts. Loan spells at Istanbul Basaksehir and Watford followed, but a permanent breakthrough at Forest never materialized.

Blackburn Rovers, currently pushing for a Championship play-off spot, have been in the market for attacking reinforcements, particularly with Yuki Ohashi sidelined for the next few weeks due to injury. The Lancashire club identified Dennis as the ideal candidate to strengthen their forward line.

The Nigerian forward underwent a medical at Ewood Park after Rovers found a breakthrough in negotiations on Monday, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Forest had previously entertained interest from clubs like Toulouse and Werder Bremen earlier in the day, but Blackburn ultimately secured his signature.

Dennis’ arrival could provide the firepower Rovers need to boost their promotion ambitions as they aim for a return to the Premier League.
