Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has urged the Nigerian government and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to launch an investigation into the mysterious death of Abubakar Lawal, a Nigerian footballer who passed away under unclear circumstances in Uganda, Footynaija.com reports.

Lawal, a striker for Vipers SC, was initially reported to have died in a motorcycle accident. However, conflicting reports later suggested he had fallen from a balcony at a shopping mall in Kampala. These inconsistencies have raised suspicions, prompting Musa to call for a thorough probe.

The former Leicester City winger expressed his concerns on social media, questioning the circumstances of Lawal’s tragic death.

“It is saddened to receive the news of Abubakar Lawal. The news was a shocking one which prompted me to ask further questions and clarification,” Musa wrote in a statement on Tuesday.

“However, we discovered contrary information about his demise; The first one claimed it was an accident, and the second report claimed he fell from a balcony.

“The contradicting reports suggest something suspicious about his demise and I have been in contact with the Nigerian authority and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) calling their attention to this fatal case in Uganda.

“I am appealing to the Nigerian Government and the NFF to investigate the incident and work with the Ugandan government to get justice for Lawal.

“Lawal’s soul deserves a thorough investigation and justice must be served if anyone is found guilty.
“

Ugandan police have confirmed they are investigating the circumstances surrounding Lawal’s death. The 29-year-old was reportedly at the Voicemall Shopping Arcade in Kampala when he allegedly fell from a third-floor balcony.

According to local authorities, he had gone to visit a Tanzanian friend, Omary Naima, who left him preparing tea in her room—part of the mall complex—before the fatal incident occurred.

Lawal was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Authorities have since retrieved CCTV footage and are conducting interrogations to determine the exact sequence of events leading to his death.

Among the items recovered from the late footballer were two smartphones, shoes, headsets, and his training kit.
