“It needs to stop” – Postecoglou frustrated after Spurs relinquish lead yet again in derby defeat

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou couldn’t hide his frustration after watching his side fall to a 2-1 defeat against north London rivals Arsenal despite initially taking the lead on Wednesday night, Soccernet.football reports.

Son Heung-Min put the Lilly Whites in the lead after 25 minutes of first half football but the South Korean saw his goal cancelled out in fortuitous fashion as Spurs striker Dominic Solanke put through his own net, before Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard fired the Gunners in front.

Wednesday night’s defeat marked the fifth match of Tottenham’s last nine in the Premier League that they have led in a game without going on to win it. Spurs have now dropped 18 points from winning positions this season, second only to Fulham, who have lost 19.

Their latest result leaves them languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table in 13th place, extending their winless run to five league games. They have also failed to secure a victory in their last six encounters with Arsenal.

Speaking after the game, Postecoglou was unable to hide his disappointment with the team’s performance.

“Nowhere near good enough, especially in the first half,” he told TNT Sports. “We were too passive. We let Arsenal dictate the game.

“The second half was a little better, but nowhere near good enough. Not acceptable.

“Ultimately, the responsibility lies with me and how I prepare the players. I’m more interested in how we play, and we were not anywhere near the levels today.

“Of course, they [defeats] hurt me. Not acceptable. Too many losses this year. Too many games getting away from us. It needs to stop.”
