Cardiff City defender Jamilu Collins could be on his way to Saudi Arabia as the Welsh club faces a crucial January transfer window following a poor start to the Championship season, Soccernet.football understands.

According to Darren Witcoop, Saudi Arabian clubs are keen on signing the Nigerian international, whose contract with Cardiff City expires in 2025.

The Bluebirds are in a dire situation, languishing in 22nd place with just 18 points from 21 games.

New manager Gary Rowett will have a mountain to climb if he hopes to guide the team out of the relegation zone. For Collins, this campaign has been challenging, with just three appearances under his belt and limited opportunities to make an impact.

Collins, capped 30 times for Nigeria, joined Cardiff City in 2022, aiming to help the club achieve Premier League promotion.

However, his journey has been marred by injuries and inconsistent form. Before Cardiff, the 29-year-old enjoyed stints across Europe, including Croatia’s HNK Rijeka and Germany’s SC Paderborn, where he famously scored a 35-yard screamer against Bayern Munich.

The January window is expected to see several departures from Cardiff City, with Collins among 12 players whose contracts are set to expire next summer. High-profile names like Aaron Ramsey and Joe Ralls could also leave, raising concerns over the team’s leadership and experience.

For Cardiff, the stakes are high. Their Boxing Day clash against Oxford United, led by new manager Gary Rowett, marks the beginning of a crucial period. Trips to Watford and a home game against Coventry City will test the Bluebirds’ mettle as they look to climb the table.
