Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that Manchester United’s lack of quality was pivotal in their 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest, his first loss at Old Trafford, Soccernet.football reports.

The defeat leaves United languishing in 13th place in the Premier League, with mounting pressure on the Portuguese manager.

Amorim, who had only experienced back-to-back league defeats once in his career before taking over at United, conceded that the club faces a long road ahead to rebuild.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Amorim remarked, “It was a tough game, we started the two halves really bad. It was hard to pass on some calm to the players and continue the game as we should do. We had not a lot of quality but a lot of heart.”

Nikola Milenkovic’s second-minute header, United’s third set-piece concession in a week following the Arsenal loss, highlighted defensive frailties.

Amorim took responsibility, saying, “This is more my fault because I’m responsible. We did a lot of work in this area… but in the beginning of the game, we suffered in the first play.”

Despite levelling the score at 1-1, United struggled after halftime, conceding twice more.

Amorim admitted the atmosphere further compounded their challenges, stating, “It’s really hard to transmit something, like, continue to do your job. We managed to score one more, but then it was more like we wanted, but with not a lot of quality.”

The Portuguese tactician drew on his early struggles at Sporting Lisbon for perspective: “I had this and worse at Sporting in the beginning. For me, the feeling is the same… This will turn around. We need time and we need to continue to work in the same way every day.”
