Manchester City failed again to find their golden touch as Pep Guardiola’s men were lucky to leave Crystal Palace with a 2-2 draw on Saturday, Soccernet.football reports.

The champions ended an incredible run of seven games without a win, including six defeats, with an impressive 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest in midweek.

But City’s efforts to build on that win proved futile as Crystal Palace turned into an immovable foe at the Selhurst Park.

Daniel Muñoz gave the Eagles four minutes into the encounter but the visitors responded brilliantly through Erling Haaland on the half-hour mark.

Ten minutes into the second half, Crystal Palace regained the lead only for Rico Lewis to equalise for Man City. The young Lewis was, however, sent off in the 84th minute but Crystal Palace could not find the winner they deserved for their bravely late on.

While Manchester City stumbled, Aston Villa made the most of home advantage as Unai Emery’s men carved out a slim 1-0 win over Southampton at Villa Park.

Jhon Durán scored the only goal of the game in the 24th minute with the win provisionally sending the Villans into fifth place on the Premier League table, just behind City.

At the Gtech Community Stadium, Brentford emerged 4-2 winners over Newcastle in a game that would live long in the memory.

Both teams packed the punch in a first-half that ended two-all but Brentford found the resources to edge it after the break with goals from centre-back Nathan Collins and substitute Kevin Schade.

Brentford now sit in sixth place equal on points with Brighton who have a game in handy.
