Paris Saint-Germain label club sale reports as ‘completely false’

Reigning Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain have labelled reports that Qatar Sports Investment may be open to selling the club as “completely false,” Soccernet.football reports.

L’Équipe reported on Wednesday that sources close to the Emir of Qatar suggested that PSG’s owner, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, might consider selling the club if a compelling offer were made.

The report clarified that this did not imply Qatar Sports Investments was actively seeking to sell PSG but rather that they were open to the idea, particularly as interest in the club appears to have waned following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Since that event, there has reportedly been a growing sense of detachment from the Ligue 1 giants, who have enjoyed unparalleled domestic dominance since they were acquired by QSI in 2011.

However, a PSG spokesperson, speaking to Ben Jacobs, strongly denied the claims, emphasizing the group’s ongoing commitment to the club and pointing to their recent substantial investments.

“This is completely false, the same newspaper writes the same complete rubbish week and week again,” began the statement, specifically referring to L’Équipe’s piece.

“The shareholders have just spent €350m on Poissy, with further major expansions at Campus just announced, and are looking to invest hundreds of millions on a new stadium, while increasing our investments across football, sports and entertainment, but apparently we are looking to sell,” concluded the statement as QSI looked to publically underline their continued commitment to PSG.

Les Parisiens currently lead the way in Ligue 1 with a seven point gap over nearest rivals Marseille ahead of their trip to Stade L’Abbé Deschamps where they will face Auxerre on Friday, December 6.
