Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is the only player assured of a starting spot in Sunday’s high-stakes clash against Tottenham, Soccernet.football reports.

Maresca’s revelation came after Chelsea’s commanding 5-1 victory over Southampton on Wednesday, a result that extended the Blues’ winning streak to four games.

Speaking about his lineup plans for the London derby, Maresca stated: “That day we are going to play Robert Sanchez and 10 players. The only one that is sure is Sanchez.”

Sanchez’s performances have been under scrutiny this season, with the Spaniard conceding 14 goals so far.

Filip Jorgensen, who deputized against Southampton and impressed despite not keeping a clean sheet, has shown promise.

However, Maresca’s comments suggest Sanchez remains his first choice, at least for now.

Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation has sparked debate among fans and pundits alike.

Former Blues defender Jason Cundy echoed similar sentiments: “Most fans look at the goalkeeping situation and think, ‘Is it alright right now?’ But I think what we’ve got is probably what we’re going to get.”

Reflecting on the win over Southampton, Maresca praised his team’s attacking output but lamented their shaky start: “I’m very happy with the five goals we scored. I’m not happy with the first 15 to 20 minutes where we struggled. We were not pressing man-to-man as planned, and it showed.”

Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham sit eighth in the table amid an inconsistent run of form.

Spurs, battling an injury crisis with nine players sidelined, will hope to build on their positive record against ‘big six’ opponents this season, including a recent EFL Cup triumph over Manchester City.

The Blues, currently second in the Premier League table, will aim to capitalize on their momentum and cement their status as title contenders.
