Liverpool manager Arne Slot has pinpointed Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea as key contenders in the race for the Premier League title this season, following his team’s solid 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Anfield, Soccernet.football reports.

The result gave Liverpool a five-point cushion over reigning champions Manchester City, taking them to the top of the table after a stunning start under Slot’s guidance. This latest victory is Liverpool’s 15th win in 17 competitive matches in the 2024-25 campaign.

Slot, however, was quick to temper expectations despite the Reds’ strong position.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, the Dutch manager refrained from declaring Liverpool as title favourites and instead pointed to the strength of their rivals.

When asked if going five points clear after a win could be considered an ideal scenario, Slot responded, “If you win, it mostly doesn’t get better than that and yeah, you know if you win the amount of games we do, you can be ahead.”

Slot acknowledged the threats posed by other top teams, adding, “It’s not sure yet in this league because Arsenal, City, Chelsea, all these clubs that are playing in this league, they are able to win so many games as well and that’s what they have shown in the last few seasons.

“So, we are only focused on ourselves, and then a win against a very good team like Villa, who have done so well in the last few years, is always important.”

Following this international break, Liverpool will look to continue their title push when they return to action against Southampton on November 24.
